Bennedict Mathurin Gives Back: A Big Lift for Indy’s Haitian Community This Holiday Season

Updated: 6 days ago

In the heart of Indianapolis, one of the city’s brightest young stars stepped away from the hardwood to do something even more meaningful. Indiana Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin spent his day handing out hope — 500 turkeys and full bags of food — to families in the city’s Haitian community.

The event, supported by The Mathurin Family Foundation and Kroger, wasn’t just another holiday giveaway. It was personal. Mathurin, who is Haitian-Canadian, has always worn his heritage with pride. But this moment showed that his connection to community extends far beyond the basketball court.

Mathurin’s story is one of resilience and representation. Coming from modest beginnings, he has consistently spoken about the importance of giving back and honoring the people who shaped him. This Thanksgiving season, he used his platform to make sure families felt seen, supported, and cared for.

Children left with smiles, parents walked away with full bags and full hearts, and the building was filled with laughter and connection — the kind you can’t put a price on.

A Community Effort That Leaves a Lasting Impact

By donating 500 turkeys, Mathurin didn’t just meet a holiday need — he eased a financial burden for families who needed the help most. With rising food costs and the added stress of the holiday season, this gesture reached far deeper than the surface.

The partnership with Kroger and community leaders helped make the effort seamless and successful, showing once again what Indy can do when people come together.

More Than a Basketball Player

Mathurin is already one of the Pacers’ most exciting young talents, but moments like this remind us that greatness isn’t measured only in points, dunks, or highlights. It’s measured in the willingness to give, to show up, and to stand for something that lasts longer than a game.

His leadership off the court continues to grow — and Indianapolis is better for it.

A Holiday Reminder

As the city heads deeper into the season of giving, Mathurin’s actions represent exactly what Listed Indy celebrates:

community, compassion, and the individuals who make Indianapolis stronger.

From Listed Indy to the Mathurin family — thank you for lifting the city up.
